In my opinion, the court made the correct decision. If Universal had won, it would have set a dangerous precedent in the media industry where large companies could claim ownership over any broad creative concept. This would’ve severely liumited creative freedom in games, film, and illustration. Copyright laws exist to protect creative expression, not limit them to The ruling protected innovation in the rapidly changing and developing video game industry throughout the years. Without this ruling in Nintendo’s favour, the modern video game industry would have evolved very differently, and wouldn’t be as safe or as diverse as it is now.
